ASTM E2279 Guiding Principles 2020 Update |
ASTM E2279 – 20 is the most recent update to the foundational document, “Establishing Guiding Principles for Property Management.” The document is referenced in DOD i5000.64, FAR 45, most ASTM documents and most ISO documents. The document’s requirement for a Property Asset Management Plan evolved into the ISO 55001 requirement for a Strategic Asset Management Plan, according to Rich Culbertson, ALN Board Member and Senior Fellow. Culbertson was an original E2279 author in 2003 and has been Technical Leader and Primary Author since then and was an original author of the ISO 55000 series. Culbertson says the E2279 2020 update includes the words “high potential” for improved internal controls and governance due to the proven track record of the standard; defines “condoned” and “willful ignorance”; promotes a problem-solving mentality and culture; emphasizes intangible property for the first time and includes too many other updates to include here.
