Anto Boudiardjo, President, PADI.io, was on a Digital Twin Consortium committee that recommended a System-of-Systems White Paper as a model for value creation three years ago. The Industry Internet of Things Consortium joined in, and the result that was published last week is a thorough exploration of how to operate successfully in an increasingly complex world. Since Asset Management is a System-of-Systems endeavor, there is much to be gleaned from the 6-chapter, 54-page document available at this link. The report is not a quick read because you will want to stop and consider many of the concepts presented. But is highly beneficial to those wanting to successfully approach and navigate the application of asset management to their organization.

Mr. Boudiardjo also recommends people review a much older paper on System-of-Systems thinking published by IBM in 2010. The paper points out that the world itself operates as a System-of-Systems and because humans do not run it as such, we lose $4 trillion in value every year from unoptimized operation. Aptly titled “The World’s $4 trillion Challenge,” the paper provides a global perspective that can easily be adopted at the organizational level, especially if you are training a team to take on Asset Management initiatives.
