The Henry George School of Social Science was founded in 1932 to establish fundamental economic justice and sustainable prosperity for all people. Henry George’s 1879 book, Progress and Poverty, is still the best-selling work on political economy and advocates a land tax to fund development of land that increases in value based on human use. Build a bridge across a river and the value on the connected sides of the river will increase in value because of increased human activity. The book also explores the constant presence of poverty despite increasing wealth – an issue that still persists and some think can also be addressed with asset management. Henry George’s ideas still shape discussion on development and taxes. |
