National Academies of Sciences Panel Participation Caps an Active First Half of 2017 for Asset Leadership Network

Washington, D.C. – June 28, 2017 – Jim Dieter, Executive Director of the Asset Leadership Network, spoke at a National Academies of Sciences panel hosted by the Federal Facilities Council today.

The event caps a very active first half of 2017 for the Asset Leadership Network. So far the year has also seen Mr. Dieter give a keynote at a conference in Las Vegas and participate in a panel at an infrastructure conference in Montreal. A 9-webinar series featured 2017 ALN Work Group developments and special presentations. And a Federal Asset Management Roundtable co-hosted with Booz Allen Hamilton is leading to the formation of a Federal Asset Management Community of Interest.

A summary of Asset Leadership Network 2017 activities – completed and upcoming – will be presented online Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 3 pm Eastern. (See login information below.)

The Federal Facility Council panel was titled, “Connection, Correlation, and Integration of Management and Facility Standards.” The panel included Jim Whittaker and Dana K. “Deke” Smith. The moderator was Cameron Oskvig, Director of the Federal Facility Council.

The panel discussed how standards can be used together to gain added value for Federal Agencies. The three standards that were discussed were the ISO 55000 asset management, ISO 41000 facility asset management and the APPA Total Cost of Ownership standard, which is using the format of the American National Standards Institute. The Total Cost of Ownership standard and the Facility Asset Management standard are in development, but can be used for conceptual guidance in conjunction with ISO 55000.

Helping Federal Agencies understand the place of each standard and how they can benefit their facilities was achieved through a 2-hour, interactive presentation highlighting key issues from each standard and using graphic presentations to show how the standards interrelate and can be used together.
